Mild Steel Laser Cutting Sydney

Laser Wizard has been providing precision mild steel laser cutting to Sydney businesses since 1999. From our facility in St Marys in Western Sydney, we cut mild steel up to 25 mm thick on sheets up to 2000 × 4000 mm. We offer fast turnaround across the Sydney metro region, with priority handling on urgent jobs. ISO 9001:2016 certified, Australian family-owned, and backed by extensive in-house services so your job goes from drawing to finished part without leaving our floor.

Our Mild Steel Laser Cutting Capabilities

Maximum thickness, sheet size, and tolerances

We cut mild steel from 0.50 mm up to 25 mm thick on sheets up to 2000 × 4000 mm. Cutting tolerance is ±0.20 mm with a typical kerf width of 0.30 mm. Every job is nested for optimal material yield before cutting begins, reducing material cost and waste — a saving we pass through to your quote.

Mild steel grades and suppliers

We laser cut a wide range of mild steel materials including Grade 250, Grade 350, Corten weathering steel, OT, AS3678-compliant structural steel, Bisalloy abrasion-resistant plate, and other ferrous grades. Materials are sourced from BlueScope, Truspec, and other AS-compliant Australian mills. If you have a specific grade, certification, or mill specification requirement, send us your drawings and we will confirm material availability with your quote.

Fast Turnaround for Sydney Metro Businesses

Speed is one of our biggest differentiators. We prioritise fast turnaround on Sydney mild steel laser cutting orders and run our schedule to accommodate urgent jobs wherever possible. Call us with your deadline and we will work to meet it. Turnaround depends on job size, current workshop loading, and material availability — our procurement team holds standing inventory of the most common mild steel grades and thicknesses, with less common specifications requiring additional time for material delivery before cutting begins.

What We Cut Mild Steel For

Since 1999, we have cut mild steel for Sydney businesses across a wide range of industries. The categories below represent our most common applications, but we work across every sector that uses sheet steel.

Structural & architectural

Brackets, base plates, gusset plates, balustrade panels, decorative screens, and laser-cut signage for builders, architects, and structural fabricators across Sydney. Our combination of laser cutting plus in-house folding and welding means we deliver finished assemblies, not just blanks.

Mining & heavy industry

Wear plates, mounting brackets, equipment guards, and replacement components for mining, quarrying, and heavy industrial clients. Material certification and traceability provided where required.

Signage, fixtures & enclosures

Custom signage frames, retail fixture brackets, electrical and equipment enclosures, and powder-coat-ready blanks. Surface treatment is available in-house, so we deliver finished parts ready for installation.

Prototypes & one-offs

Single-piece prototypes for product designers and engineers, with no minimum order quantity. We accept DXF, DWG, and STEP files; if you need help preparing files for cutting, we offer drawing review as part of the quote process.

How It Works — Our Mild Steel Laser Cutting Process

File submission

Send us your drawings in DXF, DWG, or STEP format via the quote form below or email. We accept files from every major CAD platform including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion 360, Rhino, and Onshape. PDFs are accepted for indicative quoting but we will need a vector file for production.

Nesting & optimisation

Our team nests your parts for maximum material efficiency. For repeat jobs we maintain saved nests so re-orders can be quoted and cut faster.

Cutting

Our laser cutting capability runs on Trumpf — German-engineered laser cutters calibrated daily and serviced under manufacturer agreement to maintain cutting accuracy and edge quality.

Secondary operations

Most parts need more than just cutting. We offer folding, welding, drilling, tapping, rolling, surface treatment, and saw cutting all under one roof. That means your job stays with us from raw sheet to finished part without freight, lead time, or handover risk between vendors.

Quality check & delivery

Every job is inspected against drawing before it leaves the workshop. Sydney metro orders are delivered by our nominated couriers; interstate freight is organised on request.

How We Quote

Mild steel laser cutting is quoted job-by-job because cost depends on sheet thickness, grade, cut length, hole count, and quantity. To get an accurate quote, send us your DXF or DWG file using the form below. We typically return pricing within one business day; urgent quotes can be turned around faster on request. Freight to your site is included in the quoted price for the standard Sydney metro zone.

Mild Steel Laser Cutting FAQ

What is the maximum thickness of mild steel you can laser cut?

We cut mild steel up to 25 mm thick on our laser. For thicker sections, our waterjet handles greater depths. Send us your drawing and we will confirm the right process.

What grades of mild steel do you cut?

We cut a wide range of mild steel materials including Grade 250, Grade 350, Corten, OT, AS3678-compliant structural steel, Bisalloy, and other ferrous grades, sourced from BlueScope, Truspec, and other AS-compliant Australian mills. If you have a specific grade requirement we will confirm availability with your quote.

What is the minimum order quantity?

There is no minimum. We laser cut single prototypes as readily as batch production runs. Pricing per piece is naturally higher for one-offs due to setup amortisation.

How accurate is laser cutting compared to plasma or waterjet?

Laser cutting holds tolerances of ±0.20 mm on mild steel, significantly tighter than plasma cutting and comparable to waterjet for most applications. Laser delivers a cleaner edge with less heat-affected zone, ideal for parts that need minimal post-processing.

What file formats do you accept?

DXF, DWG, and STEP files are preferred. We accept files from every major CAD platform including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion 360, Rhino, and Onshape. PDFs are accepted for indicative quoting only.

How quickly can you turn around a mild steel laser cutting order?

Turnaround depends on the job, current workshop loading, and material availability. We run our schedule to accommodate urgent Sydney mild steel jobs wherever possible — call us with your deadline and we will work to meet it.

Do you deliver outside Sydney?

Yes — we ship Australia-wide using nominated freight carriers. Sydney metro delivery is included in the quoted price; interstate freight is calculated based on weight, dimensions, and destination, and shown separately on your quote.

Can you also fold, weld, or drill the parts after cutting?

Yes. We provide a full set of secondary operations in-house including folding, welding, drilling, tapping, rolling, surface treatment, and saw cutting. Most customers come to us specifically because we deliver finished, ready-to-install parts rather than just cut blanks.

What is your minimum mild steel sheet thickness?

We laser cut mild steel down to 0.50 mm thickness. For thinner gauge sheet metal work please call to discuss; we may recommend an alternative cutting process for very thin material.
